Timber Frame Construction | Kingspan LOGIC+

Kingspan LOGIC+ closed-panel wall consists of sustainably sourced structural timber insulated with premium performance Kingspan Kooltherm phenolic insulation. The wall system is manufactured with an integrated, reflective, vapour-control layer and service batten. It is delivered complete with an external reflective breather membrane to enhance performance and protect the structure during construction.

Building a Timber Frame House

Developed in-house, Kingspan LOGIC+ has an inbuilt zone for services such as pipework and electric cabling which allows for future service upgrades, such as extra sockets or networking, to be added without compromising the insulation layer. This therefore maintains the high standard of thermal performance.

Kingspan LOGIC+ will help manage the extent of renewable energy to a cost-effective level and provides the customer with a high-performance, maintenance-free external wall solution.

Benefits of Timber Frame Construction | Kingspan LOGIC+

  • Powered by Kingspan Kooltherm phenolic insulation - minimises wall thickness and maximises valuable floor space
  • Low-cost, Building Regulation-compliant system
  • Closed-panel structural system enabling rapid build and ease for follow-on trades
  • Engineered and precision-manufactured, offering right-first-time quality
  • All our external wall systems benefit from load-bearing fire-resistance tests, carried out in accordance with EN 13651-1: 1999.
  • Fully thermally modelled junction

Kingspan LOGIC+ Information

Kingspan Kooltherm
Thermal Bridging
Fire Performance
The provision of a dedicated service void helps maintain the integrity of the vapour control/air barrier layer. The Kingspan LOGIC+ panel jointing system provides continuity of airtightness, not only at panel-to-panel junctions but also at critical junctions with foundations, intermediate floors and roof. The air leakage barrier is dressed into openings and allows a simple tape seal to windows, doors and other wall penetrations.
Kingspan Kooltherm is an extensive range of premium performance phenolic insulants for roof, wall and floor insulation.

Kingspan Kooltherm has a fibre-free rigid thermoset phenolic insulation core faced on both sides with a low-emissivity composite foil facing. By using Kingspan Kooltherm® the thickness of insulation included in external walls can be minimised and the floor space available for use increased.
Kingspan Kooltherm offers the following benefits:

  • With a thermal conductivity of 0.018–0.023 W/m.K these are the most thermally efficient insulation products in common use.
  • The thinnest commonly used insulation products for any specific U–value.
  • Manufactured with a blowing agent that has zero Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP) and low  Global Warming Potential (GWP).
  • The closed-cell structure resists both moisture and water vapour ingress, a problem which can be associated with open-cell materials such as mineral fibre which can result in reduced thermal performance.
  • Unaffected by air infiltration – a problem that can be experienced with mineral fibre and which can reduce thermal performance.
  • Safe and easy to install – fibre-free core.
  • When installed correctly, can provide reliable long term thermal performance over the lifetime of the building.
Thermal bridging from external junctions is an important factor in determining the overall fabric energy efficiency of buildings, because the overall insulation and airtightness standards for UK homes are now relatively high. To address this, Kingspan LOGIC+ demonstrates a level of performance that exceeds SAP guidelines, achieving a thermal bridging y-value of 0.03-0.05.
The Kingspan LOGIC + system benefits from fire resistance testing to demonstrate both 30 minutes and 60 minutes of fire resistance. The 30 minutes level of fire resistance was achieved using a single layer of 12.5mm Knauf Type A plasterboard. 60 minutes of fire resistance was achieved using two layers of 15mm Knauf Type A board. Both tests were carried out in accordance with EN 13651-1: 1999.
