The provision of a dedicated service void maintains the integrity of both the insulation and airtightness of the wall. The Kingspan ULTIMA™ panel jointing system maintains continuity of airtightness not only at panel-to-panel junctions but also at critical junctions with foundations, intermediate floors and roof. In whole-building airtightness testing, Kingspan ULTIMA™ has delivered permeabilities less than 1m3/m2.hr @ 50pa.  The air leakage barrier is dressed into openings and allows a simple tape seal to windows, doors and other wall penetrations.

Kooltherm is an extensive range of premium performance phenolic insulants for roof, wall and floor insulation. It is used in the manufacture of our timber-frame systems and we supply it for use as a ground-floor and roof insulant.

Kingspan Kooltherm has a fibre-free rigid thermoset phenolic insulation core faced on both sides with a low-emissivity composite foil facing. By using Kingspan Kooltherm® the thickness of insulation included in external walls can be minimised and the floor space available for use increased.
Kingspan Kooltherm offers the following benefits:

  • With a thermal conductivity of 0.018–0.023 W/m.K these are the most thermally efficient insulation products in common use.
  • The thinnest commonly used insulation products for any specific U–value.
  • Manufactured with a blowing agent that has zero Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP) and low  Global Warming Potential (GWP).
  • The closed cell structure resists both moisture and water vapour ingress, a problem which can be associated with open-cell materials such as mineral fibre which can result in reduced thermal performance.
  • Unaffected by air infiltration – a problem that can be experienced with mineral fibre and which can reduce thermal performance.
  • Safe and easy to install – fibre-free core.
  • When installed correctly, can provide reliable long-term thermal performance over the lifetime of the building.
Thermal bridging from external junctions is an important factor in determining the overall fabric energy efficiency of buildings, because the overall insulation and airtightness standards for UK homes are now relatively high. To address this, ULTIMA™ demonstrates a level of performance that exceeds SAP guidelines, achieving a thermal bridging y-value of 0.03-0.05.
The Kingspan ULTIMA system benefits from fire resistance testing to demonstrate both 30 minutes and 60 minutes of fire resistance. The 30 minutes level of fire resistance was achieved using a single layer of 12.5mm Knauf Type A plasterboard. 60 minutes of fire resistance was achieved using two layers of 15mm Knauf Type A board. Both tests were carried out in accordance with EN 13651-1: 1999.
