KTS is delighted to have been chosen to play a pivotal role in three exciting new education projects for the London Borough of Brent. Procured through the SCAPE framework and led by Morgan Sindall Construction’s Northern Home Counties team, these developments aim to meet the growing demand for specialist educational needs (SEN) facilities in the area.

The projects, worth over £6 million, will see significant expansions at Newman Catholic College, Preston Park Primary School, and St Margaret Clitherow RC Primary School. Each school will benefit from new classrooms, tailored sensory areas, soft landscaping, and dedicated outdoor spaces, such as vegetable gardens and play areas, all designed to enrich the learning experience for pupils requiring additional support.

Meeting Growing Demand for SEN Facilities

Brent Council recognise need for SEN facilities in the area, and these projects mark an important step in addressing this demand. Morgan Sindall’s proven track record in delivering high-quality educational environments, combined with KTS’ SIPs offsite building systems providing the required energy efficient credentials, ensures these spaces will provide a secure and inspiring environment for SEN students for years to come.

Emma Curtis, Northern Home Counties Area Director at Morgan Sindall, commented on the partnership, stating, “It is great to be working with Brent Council, as we set out to increase the capacity of much needed specialist facilities, that will support the next generation in the borough who require extra support.

“At Morgan Sindall, we understand the important role that the learning environment can have, not only practically, but in inspiring children’s learning and giving them the best opportunity at success. We are proud of the projects we have delivered all over the country and look forward to having similar success in Brent.”

Councillor Gwen Grahl, Brent Council’s Cabinet Member for Children, Young People & Schools, shared similar sentiments, noting, “These new specialist facilities will benefit many children and young people in Brent and ensure their specific education needs are met. By providing a safe and secure learning environment built with these needs in mind, we are fulfilling our promise to give all those that will use these new services the best start in life.”

Delivering Construction Solutions

At the heart of these projects is a strong environmental commitment, and we are proud that our Kingspan TEK® SIPs has been selected as the build system of choice. The Kingspan TEK® system is engineered to deliver thermal performance to exceed Building Regulations while having lower carbon emissions compared to traditional construction methods. By using SIPs, these school buildings will have a lower reliance on materials, such as concrete, that have a high environmental footprint.

The advantages of Kingspan TEK® extend beyond its carbon-cutting potential. Our system facilitates offsite construction, with prefabricated panels manufactured in a controlled environment before being transported to the sites for assembly. The offsite approach offers benefits for school building projects. Because the pre-fabrication is done offsite, fewer site deliveries are required, and fewer construction crews are needed on-site. This causes far less disruption to school operations and the surrounding communities. Additionally, the streamlined construction process helps to accelerate construction timelines compared to traditional methods, ensuring that the much-needed facilities are delivered promptly.

Dan Walker, General Manager of KTS has stated, “We are immensely proud to support the development of these SEN facilities for Brent Council, which embody the values of inclusivity and community. By utilizing our Kingspan TEK® SIPs system, we are not only helping reduce the environmental impact of these projects but also contributing to the creation of spaces that foster growth and opportunity.”

At KTS, we are proud to contribute to these transformative projects and demonstrate the potential of Modern Methods of Construction in providing projects that have a commitment to both environmental impact and meeting the needs of local communities.
